Clinical trials are research studies conducted in human volunteers in an attempt to determine if an investigational drug or treatment is safe and provides a benefit to patients. These studies allow researchers and doctors to learn about a compound's activity and side effects, as well as to explore possible indications for a new drug or combinations of drugs. Data from a clinical trial help to increase knowledge about a specific disease and its potential treatment. For general information about clinical trial participation, please visit the National Institutes of Health (NIH) website.
