N. Anthony (Tony) Coles, M.D.

President, Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board

Tony Coles, M.D., joined Onyx in March 2008 as President, Chief Executive Officer, and member of its board of directors. Prior to joining Onyx, Dr. Coles was President, Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the board of directors of NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Before joining NPS Pharmaceuticals in 2005, Dr. Coles was Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated, which he joined in 2002. Beginning in 1996, Dr. Coles held a number of executive positions while at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, including Senior Vice President of Strategy and Policy; Senior Vice President of Marketing and Medical Affairs, Neuroscience/Infectious Diseases/Dermatology; Vice President, Western Area Sales Cardiovascular and Metabolic Business Unit for U.S. Primary Care; and Vice President, Cardiovascular Global Marketing. From 1992 until 1996, Dr. Coles was at Merck & Co., Inc. Dr. Coles earned his M.D. degree from Duke University. He also holds a master's degree in public health from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Coles currently serves as a trustee for Johns Hopkins University and Boston Medical Center.

Laura A. Brege

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Laura A. Brege joined Onyx in June 2006 as Executive Vice President & Chief Business Officer. In that role, she oversaw the expansion of key corporate capabilities and strengthened Onyx’s financial position by significantly adding to its cash reserves. She was promoted to her current position in October 2007 and is responsible for the sales and marketing, medical affairs, legal, business development, and compliance functions. Before joining Onyx, Ms. Brege was a general partner at Red Rock Management, a venture capital firm. Prior to Red Rock, she was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at COR Therapeutics. Earlier in her career, Ms. Brege served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Flextronics and Vice President and Treasurer of The Cooper Companies. Ms. Brege earned her undergraduate degree from Ohio University and has an MBA from the University of Chicago. Ms. Brege serves on the boards of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and The Ohio University Foundation.

Henry J. Fuchs, M.D.

Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Henry J. Fuchs, M.D., joined Onyx in September 2005 as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.  Previously Dr. Fuchs was Chief Executive Officer of IntraBiotics, a biotechnology company. He originally joined IntraBiotics in 1996 as Vice President of Clinical Affairs before assuming the role of President and Chief Operating Officer in 2001. From 1987 to 1996, Dr. Fuchs was employed by Genentech where he held a number of positions of increasing responsibility. While there he led the clinical team that played an integral role in the approval of Herceptin, a breast cancer treatment, as well as Pulmozyme, a therapeutic for cystic fibrosis. Dr. Fuchs earned an M.D. degree from George Washington University and a B.A. in biochemical sciences from Harvard College. Dr. Fuchs serves on the board of Ardea Biosciences.

Randy A. Kelley

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Randy A. Kelley, previously Vice President of Sales, joined Onyx in September 2004. Mr. Kelley established Onyx's U.S. sales organization and managed, with the company’s collaborator, Bayer, the successful launch of Nexavar, a targeted oncology agent approved for the treatment of advanced kidney cancer. From 1994 to 2004, Mr. Kelley served in various senior sales and marketing positions at Chiron Corporation, including Vice President, North American sales for the company's biopharmaceutical division. Previously Mr. Kelley was Vice President of Sales at Immunex Corporation and held various sales management positions at Adria Laboratories. Mr. Kelley earned his B.A. from the University of the Pacific. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the William S. Graham Foundation for Melanoma Research.

Juergen Lasowski, Ph.D.

Senior Vice President, Corporate Development

Juergen Lasowski, Ph.D., joined Onyx in May 2008 as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. Before joining Onyx, Dr. Lasowski was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at NPS Pharmaceuticals. Previously, Dr. Lasowski held several positions at Sanofi-Aventis and its predecessor companies, mainly Business Development and Strategy positions. Throughout his career, Dr. Lasowski has completed over 25 different business transactions and worked on three continents including North America, Europe and Asia. Dr. Lasowski earned his MBA from INSEAD, France, and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Mainz, Germany.

Judy Batlin

Vice President of Organizational Learning, Development, and Human Resources

Judy Batlin has served as Onyx's Vice President of Organizational Learning, Development, and Human Resources since February 2008, and had previously served as an organization development consultant at Onyx since 2005. Ms. Batlin specializes in developing leadership competencies and overall effectiveness of teams and individual employees. She has over twenty years of experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, and during her career has collaborated with a variety of organizations such as Acologix, Exelixis, Iconix Pharmaceuticals, Genentech, Pharmacopeia, Celera, Stanford Medical Center and Clinics, Chiron, and Berlex. Earlier in her career, Ms. Batlin served as Director of Organizational Learning, as well as Director of Staffing and Employee Relations for Chiron Corporation. Previously, she held the position of Associate Director of Human Resource Development at Berlex Laboratories.

Gregory J. Giotta, Ph.D., J.D.

Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel

Gregory J. Giotta, Ph.D., J.D., joined Onyx in June 1995 as Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel. Prior to joining the company, he served as Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Attorney at Glycomed Corporation from 1992 to 1995. Previously, Dr. Giotta held various positions at Cetus Corporation from 1990 to October 1992, including Director of Patents and Trademarks for therapeutics. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and his J.D. from the University of San Diego. Dr. Giotta also pursued post-doctoral research at Harvard University and The Salk Institute.

Patricia A. Oto, R.Ph.

Vice President, Regulatory Affairs

Patricia A. Oto, R.Ph., joined Onyx in December 2006 as the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. From 2001 until 2006, Ms. Oto was at Anesiva, Inc., most recently as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance. While there, she provided strategic management and oversight for all regulatory submissions and Quality Assurance activities. Prior to joining Anesiva, Inc., Ms. Oto was the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs at Corixa Corporation following its acquisition of Coulter Pharmaceuticals. While at Coulter, she was the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance.  Previously, Ms. Oto held various regulatory positions at Genentech, Inc. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy.

Paul K. Ross

Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

Paul K. Ross has served as Onyx's Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer since October 2007 and prior to that was Senior Director, Chief Compliance Officer with Onyx beginning in July 2005. From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Ross served in an escalation of compliance officer roles at Chiron Corporation where he established and provided oversight to commercial, business unit, and corporate compliance programs. Previously, Mr. Ross held various management roles in Regulatory Affairs with InterMune, Inc. and Pharmacia Corporation. Mr. Ross earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his MBA from the University of Phoenix, Pleasanton.

Gregory W. Schafer

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Gregory W. Schafer has served as Onyx's Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since April 2006 and prior to that was a consultant to Onyx beginning in March 2006.  From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Schafer served as a consultant to various public companies in the biotechnology industry including IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals from January 2005 to September 2005 where he served as Acting Chief Financial Officer and NeoRx Corporation from September 2004 to November 2004.  From May 1999 to August 2004, Mr. Schafer was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cerus Corporation, a public biotechnology company, and from May 1997 to May 1999 Mr. Schafer served as Director of Finance of Cerus. Prior to joining Cerus, Mr. Schafer worked as a management consultant for Deloitte & Touche LLP.  Mr. Schafer holds an MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and a BSE from the University of Pennsylvania.

Julianna Wood

Vice President, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations

Julie Wood joined Onyx in May 2003 to manage internal and external communications. She has an extensive background in investor relations and communications, with a particular emphasis on the life sciences. Prior to Onyx, Ms. Wood was Senior Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at Caliper Technologies Corp. She has served in a similar capacity at Sangamo BioSciences and Chiron Corporation. She earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and has an M.B.A. from Duke University.

Todd J. Yancey, M.D.

Vice President, Medical Affairs

Todd J. Yancey, M.D. joined Onyx in August 2006 as Vice President, Medical Affairs. Previously, Dr. Yancey was a Medical Director at Genentech. His group provided medical oversight for the Tarceva drug development program and product life-cycle management. In this role, he oversaw the Investigator Sponsored Trial program, provided Medical Science Liaison and commercial support, and managed scientific education initiatives. From 2002 to 2005, Dr. Yancey was at Amgen in both the U.S. and European Oncology organizations and also served as Director and Team Leader, Inflammation Regional Medical Liaisons. Prior to Amgen, he was the Senior Vice President of Medical and Scientific Affairs at BESTMED, the medical communications arm of Saatchi and Saatchi. Dr. Yancey earned his M.D. and B.A. at the University of Virginia and completed his residency and fellowship training at The New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical College.
